Ibero-American countries strengthen capacities on Triangular Cooperation

PIFCSS and APCI co-organized a Co-Lab to exchange Ibero-American experiences in Triangular Cooperation.

From the 3rd to the 5th of June, in Arequipa, Peru, the Ibero-American Program for the Strengthening of South-South Cooperation (PIFCSS by its Spanish acronym) and the Peruvian Agency for International Cooperation (APCI by its Spanish acronym) co-hosted a new Co-Lab on Triangular Cooperation: “MÁS QUE TRES”, connecting experiences, building the future.

PIFCSS member countries participated in this activity, as well as representatives of the Regional Fund for Triangular Cooperation in Latin America and the Caribbean, managed by the German Cooperation Agency (GIZ by its German acronym); the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO); the Korean International Cooperation Agency (KOICA); and the Ibero-American General Secretariat (SEGIB).

This event favored a collaborative reflection on Triangular Cooperation and its potential in an international context marked by debates on financing for development. In addition, it promoted capacity strengthening and the exchange of experiences in this cooperation modality, specifically in terms of how to approach new partners or mechanisms for triangular projects (development banks, multilateral partners, the private sector, interregional initiatives, among others).

Two topics were highlighted among those in which countries were more interested either to learn more about the initiatives that are underway or regarding the opportunities they may have: for example, the possibility of interregional Triangular Cooperation; and Triangular Cooperation on the Environment sector.

In order to stimulate the debates, the Ibero-American General Secretariat provided the inputs that resulted from the studies that are being carried out in the framework of the SEGIB-EU Triangular Cooperation project, which precisely focuses on these two areas.
