(Work in progress) Report on South-South and Triangular Cooperation in Ibero-America 2024
The 15th edition of the Report on South-South and Triangular Cooperation in Ibero-America is an important milestone for the Ibero-American Community.
This issue is based on the information of the 2022-2023 period, during which Ibero-American countries carried out 1,228 initiatives. More than 17 years of registration and systematization, and more than 10,000 accumulated cooperation initiatives account for the strength of these modalities and the exchanges that have been implemented by this region.
Commemorating fifteen editions of the Report: challenges and opportunities in the framework of the Fourth International Conference on Financing for Development
In this opening message, Ibero-American Heads of Cooperation commemorate the 15th edition of the Report and reflect on three specific topics: South-South Cooperation’s main contributions and achievements of since 2007; the region’s challenges after fifteen years of collaborative work; and the opportunities for SSC in the framework of the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development.
Ibero-America and Bilateral South-South Cooperation in the New Global Context
This chapter is dedicated to analyze the Bilateral South-South cooperation implemented between 2022-2023, modality in which 956 initiatives took place. More than 75% of these (738) are explained by exchanges between Ibero-American countries. Nearly 23% (218) were the result of initiatives between Ibero-American countries and other countries of the Global South.
Ibero-American Triangular Cooperation and partnerships for development
This chapter addresses the Triangular Cooperation initiatives that were carried out in the 2022-2023 period. Indeed, the data shows that, during those years, this type of exchanges increased and had positive growth rates. This accounts for the potential of TC to advance sustainable development by building partnerships with a growing and diverse number of stakeholders.
Ibero-America and Regional South-South Cooperation: common challenges, shared solutions
This chapter focuses on analyzing the 96 Regional South-South Cooperation initiatives implemented between 2022 and 2023, the Ibero-American System being the strongest and most resilient in this period. This examination also sheds light on how the region has managed to increase its partnerships and cooperation with 87 other countries of the Global South, mainly with the Non-Ibero-American Caribbean and with Sub-Saharan Africa.
Ibero-American countries’ Sputh-Sourh and Triangular Cooperation in 2022-2023
These factsheets summarize the main data related to South-South and Triangular Cooperation in which each of the 22 members of the Ibero-American space participated in the 2022-2023 period. They provide information on the modalities through which countries implemented their cooperation, the roles in which initiatives were carried out, the partners with which they were mainly involved, the sectoral capacities that were strengthened, and the SDGs to which their cooperation contributed.
