SEGIB presents Triangular Cooperation Fund in Lisbon

The presentation included the progress made by the partnership between Portugal, Latin-America and Africa, and participants reflected on how to promote greater interregional cooperation.

On Wednesday, October 29th, SEGIB participated in the 9th International Meeting on Triangular Cooperation organized by the Camões Institute and the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). Specifically, SEGIB co-organized, together with the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) and GIZ, the side event titled Triangular Cooperation Beyond Regional Borders. During this activity, it presented its partnership with Portugal and its experience in establishing effective triangular initiatives such as those that were implemented in the framework of the Portugal-Latin-America-Africa Triangular Cooperation Fund.

This Fund has promoted dialogue and collaboration between Ibero-America and African Portuguese-speaking countries, strengthening ties between these two regions, which share similar challenges in terms of sustainability, climate resilience, social cohesion, and digital transformation. One of the most significant aspects of this Fund is bilingualism, which enabled institutions —that, in some cases, had limited resources— to actively participate in project implementation without the limitations that working in different languages would usually represent.

Moreover, the implementation of the Fund confirmed the increasing need to carry out interregional TC and the enormous potential in terms of knowledge and experience that can be shared and adapted to specific contexts.

In addition to presenting the Fund, this side event was structured around guiding questions that sought to determine how to promote more effective interregional exchanges and to identify lessons learnt in terms of intraregional TC. In this regard, SEGIB insisted that, in order to achieve these goals, it is necessary to invest resources and develop concrete instruments that enable cooperation to be put into practice.

These International Cooperation Meetings have become a space for key stakeholders in the technical cooperation field, and have served as a platform to promote new partnerships and debate on relevant issues in terms of development cooperation. SEGIB has actively participated in these meetings throughout the years, highlighting its broad experience in South-South and Triangular Cooperation.
