A decade of South-South Cooperation in Ibero-America
A decade in the voice of the protagonists of South-South Cooperation in Ibero-America.
A commemorative publication of the collaborative work between SEGIB and Ibero-American countries to systematize and analyze South-South Cooperation since 2007, reflected in the first ten editions of the Report on South-South Cooperation in Ibero-America.
The South-South Cooperation Logbook
The Report on South-South Cooperation in Ibero-America is the first regional effort to record, systematize, analyze, and spread knowledge of SSC in the history of cooperation. Ten years after its launching, it has become a reference. In this chapter, the leading figures behind this initiative describe, in their own words, how it began and how it has contributed to the development of SSC in Ibero-America and abroad.
A brief history of South-South Cooperation
This chapter describes the history of South-South Cooperation, its main highlights and events, from the 1955 Afro-Asian Conference in Bandung (Indonesia), where the key aspects of a future “South discourse” were established, through our time. A better understanding of the past is crucial to adequately interpret the present, and thus to more clearly envisage the possibilities of this tool for development.
A decade of South-South Cooperation in Ibero-America
The information accumulated throughout one decade makes it possible to analyze the evolution of SSC in which the region has participated. This Report presents the details of a technical and political process of multilateral and always consensual construction shared by Ibero-America’s twenty-two nations. This chapter narrates the history of this report, which is, itself, an exercise of SSC only possible through shared efforts and dialogue.
Ten Years, ten Cases
This chapter presents ten initiatives that reflect the diversity of South-South Cooperation projects carried out by Ibero-American countries over the last decade. These ten cases also illustrate the diversity of topics, different modalities of institutional articulation and different formulas for cooperation, not only among Ibero-American countries, but also with other countries of other regions such as Asia, Europe and Africa.
Our future
This chapter analyzes the challenges faced by SSC in the current scenario, where the work carried out by Ibero-America in this decade stands as a reference for the development of a new model of global cooperation. It addresses, for example, its link with development financing, gender equality, vulnerable populations, decentralized cooperation and the role of new stakeholders, among others.
