Forum “An innovative Triangular Cooperation for a new development agenda”

Presentation of the main outcomes and the related research studies of the project between SEGIB and the European Commission promoted in the framework of the Regional Facility on Development in Transition.

Triangular Cooperation (TC) must strengthen its transformative capacity and become a powerful instrument to contribute to the strategic relationship between Latin-America and the Caribbean (LAC) and the European Union (EU). This was one of the main conclusions of the forum that was held in Mexico City on February 21st and 22nd, 2023.

This event, organized by SEGIB and the Mexican Agency for International Development Cooperation (AMEXCID by its Spanish acronym), aimed to promote the exchange of knowledge and best practices among different stakeholders to strengthen bi-regional TC (EU-LAC), in line with the challenges of the 2030 Agenda.

Cooperation authorities from Ibero-American countries (Argentina, Brazil, Costa Rica, Chile, Cuba, El Salvador, Spain and Uruguay), SEGIB, AMEXCID, the EU Delegation in Mexico and international academic experts on different topics related to South-South and Triangular Cooperation, such as the German Society for International Cooperation (GIZ by its German acronym), the Fund for the Development of Indigenous Peoples of Latin-America and the Caribbean (FILAC by its Spanish acronym) and Instituto Mora, gathered at the premises of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mexico.

The meeting had 5 panel discussions that addressed the main outcomes of the research studies carried out in the framework of the project:

In addition to sharing different perspectives on how countries and the Ibero-American region work in the aforementioned fields, the forum recognized SEGIB as a catalyzing space to strengthen the link between the two regions and stressed the importance of including new and diverse stakeholders in triangular initiatives, as well as to strengthen South-South and Triangular Cooperation’s information and evaluation systems. Different relevant ideas were presented on how to strengthen TC in different political and technical spaces, in which the Ibero-American region can contribute with its knowledge and experience.

Finally, SEGIB distributed the document “An innovative Triangular Cooperation for a new development agenda: Final Publication”, which summarizes this bi-regional project and addresses the most important issues for the strengthening of TC between LAC and the European Union.
